ISO offers a family of ensembles at various ability levels to serve young musicians ages 6 to 19. Placement in all ensembles is by audition. See the general descriptions below and follow the links from the ensemble names for more detailed information.

Advanced Ensemble

The ISO Symphony

One of New York’s finest youth orchestras, the ISO Symphony is all-scholarship and regularly works with professional orchestra musicians. A concerto competition provides solo opportunities for members. Audition Guidelines

Advanced-Intermediate Ensembles

ISO Wind Symphony

Wind, brass, and percussion players explore the band repertory and perform throughout the city.

Concert Orchestra

The Concert Orchestra challenges young players to expand their technical skills and knowledge of the repertory. A concerto competition gives up-and-coming talent a chance to shine. Audition Guidelines

Intermediate Ensembles

Carnegie Hill Orchestra

The Carnegie Hill Orchestra engages young musicians in the pleasures of making music in a first-rate ensemble playing more challenging music. Audition Guidelines

Intermediate Band

The Intermediate Band at Brooklyn Music School consists of intermediate level wind, brass, and percussion players. This ensemble challenges young players to expand their technical and musical skills through band repertory. 

Beginner Ensembles

Morningside, Trinity Florentine, and ISO at Turtle Bay Orchestras

These three groups present an exciting introduction to what it means to play in an orchestra. These orchestras are strategically located to make them accessible to students in many parts of the city. Rehearsals take place in, respectively,  Upper West Side/Manhattan, Financial District/Manhattan, Mid-Town East/Manhattan. Audition Guidelines
