Ben Wareham

Ben Wareham received his Bachelor of Music in Music Education in 2007 at St. Olaf College in Minnesota.  Ben played Bassoon in the St. Olaf Band under Dr. Timothy Mahr and was fortunate enough to perform in and tour Mexico and Norway during his time there.

A native Minnesotan, Ben left the Midwest to do his student teaching at Kodaikanal International School in southern India, where he remained on staff for the second half of the school year.  He then moved on to start a music program at St. Paul International School in Beijing, China, where he taught for six years.  In his time there he built a program from scratch into one that included a choir, jazz band, beginning band, symphonic band, and biweekly private lessons for all students.  In 2014 after 6 years in China, Ben decided that, rather than move back to Minnesota, he would give New York a shot.

Ben has been teaching in Brooklyn for the last 3 years where he has started two middle school band programs.  He is currently teaching at MS 50 in south Williamsburg.  After spending so many years living and teaching abroad, Ben feels like he has finally found a place he can call “home”.  Ben’s passion in teaching is helping young students find their joy in learning how to play and perform music, and is finding New York City to have an endless supply of talented, young musicians ready to push themselves forward.  Ben remains an active musician, performing with the Brooklyn Wind Symphony and the Grand Street Community Band.
