Joseph Seifers conducts the Queens East Orchestra. He began his musical career as a bassoonist in the Portland Youth Philharmonic and also performed professionally in numerous musical theatre productions on both bassoon and bass. He graduated from the Berklee School of Music (cum laude with a degree in jazz performance) and studied with Stuart Sankey at University Of Michigan at Ann Arbor. He also holds a master’s degree in elementary and special education from Touro College. As both an artist-in-residence and band director, Mr. Seifers has been teaching music in public and private schools since 1995. He started a beginning violin program at P.S. 31Q and P.S. 228Q. For the past ten years he has taught music in the NYC public schools and is currently teaching band and orchestra at I.S. 73Q
Outside of teaching he has performed with artists such as Nancy King, Randy Porter, Pink Martini, Rodney Green, Dan Faehnle, Darrell Grant, and many others. He is currently the musical director for the Rick Younger Show as well as bassist with Moxie, Shine, and the Cal James Orchestra.
