Lawrence C. Markiewicz
Lawrence C. Markiewicz is Assistant Artistic Director of the ISO and enjoying his fourth season as conductor of the Concert Orchestra. Maintaining a high profile as a conductor in the metropolitan area, Mr. Markiewicz is starting his third season with New York’s el Sistema-Inspired Harmony Program where he serves as artistic director and conductor of their youth orchestra. Additionally, Markiewicz serves as a teacher mentor and oversees the summer program at Brooklyn College.
In September 2016 Markiewicz became the newly appointed conductor of the Stevens Institute of Technology Orchestra and for the past eleven years he has been an adjunct faculty member at the John J. Cali School or Music at Montclair State University. During his tenure at the university, has taught a variety of music education courses and is now the brass methods class instructor.
Mr. Markiewicz has become known and a visionary and builder of ensembles/organizations. Recently, Markiewicz completed a four-season tenure as conductor and music director of the Imperial Brass (British Brass Band), and is director emeritus of the Somerset Valley Orchestra.
Always showing a commitment to education, Mr. Markiewicz spent twenty years in the classroom where he built two programs (one urban and one suburban) to regional and national prominence.
Mr. Markiewicz is the first honorary and only American member of the British Youth Band Association. Since the mid 1990’s he has been sought after as a guest conductor, brass pedagogy specialist and leadership clinician across the United States, Japan and England.
